Shoe Styles

We offer several types of poultry shoes including duck shoes (or any other water fowl), chicken shoes, and shoes specifically for silkie chickens Shoes for ducks and other waterfowl come in both open toe and closed toe designs. Closed toe shoes provide better protection to the feet of your duck or goose, whereas open toe shoes allows your bird to use it's claws to scratch, climb, or perch (for perching breeds). Shoes for chickens are open toe and silkie shoes are closed toe.

Shoe Colors

Duck shoe parts Each shoe has four parts - the shoe's base, the rubber bottom, the ankle cuff, and the foot strap. The bottom on all shoes are black textured rubber that helps prevent slips. The foot and the front toes go into the base of the shoe, while the back toe goes out through a hole in the back of the ankle cuff. The bottom of every shoe is black, though the other three parts can be made in colors. Baby and juvenile shoes only have three parts - top, bottom, and ankle cuff thus only options A & B listed below are available for baby sized shoes.

Duck shoe with shoe top in one color and straps in another color
The shoe's base is one color, and the ankle cuff and foot strap are another color. The rubber bottom is black.
Duck shoe with all parts in different colors
The shoe's base, ankle cuff, and foot strap are all different colors (not available for baby sized shoes.) The rubber bottom is black.

Sizing

Baby - This size fits most poultry around 2 weeks old and can fit up to around 4-5 weeks old, depending on the fowl's individual growth. These shoes only have three parts: a top, bottom, and ankle cuff (so only they come in color options A and B.) The back toe will fit under the ankle cuff in the back of the shoe. These shoes are intended only for baby fowl that have foot illness or injury. These should only be worn in pairs as the shoes can impede a baby fowl's balance and should only be worn if absolutely necessary.

Juvenile - This size fits most poultry around 4 weeks old and can last to around 6 weeks old, depending on the fowl's individual growth. Shoes for juvenile poultry should only be worn in pairs. These shoes are intended only for Juvenile fowl that have foot illness or injury. The shoes can impede a juvenile fowl's balance and should only be worn if absolutely necessary.

* Juvenile Size shoes will also fit very small wild breeds of ducks including: Wood, Mandarin, Ringed Teal.

Small - Fits most Bantam Weight Class breeds of ducks and chickens.
Bantam duck breeds include: Call, Mallard, Black East Indies, Australian Spotted, Mini Appleyard, Silkie, and Miniature Overberg.

Medium - Fits most Light and Medium Weight Class breeds of ducks and chickens.
Light/Medium Weight class ducks breeds include: Runner, Khaki Campbell, Hook bill, Magpie, Welsh Harlequin, Cayuga, Bali, Blue Swedish, Buff Orpington, Golden Hybrid, White Crested, White Layer, smaller Rouen.

Large - Fits most Heavy Weight Class breeds of ducks and chickens. This size also fits most Light Weight Class goose breeds.
Heavy Weight duck breeds include: Pekin, Saxony, Silver Appleyard, Aylesbury, Jumbo Pekin, larger Rouen, and female Muscovy.
Light Weight geese breeds include: Canada, Shetland, Brown and White Chinese, and Tufted Roman.

Extra Large - This size fits most Medium and Heavy Weight Class Geese breeds. This Size fits male Muscovy Ducks as well.
Medium and Heavy Weight Geese breeds include: Pomeranian, American, Toulouse, Embden, African, Pilgrim. Buff, Sebastopol.

Silkie - This type of shoe is custom fitted to Silkie Chickens only. They require this special size because of the feathers on their feet and because they have five toes. This Shoe only comes in Closed-Toe. > Shoes are available in the following sizes:

Additional Information

Paper or cloth tape can be used to secure the shoe to its foot Some birds will try to remove their shoes or pick at them because it interests them. If you bird regularly removes its shoes, you can use a medical cloth tape to help prevent your bird from removing the shoes. (See left).
