Why should I use a special Poultry Leash? Can't I use a dog leash?

Leashes and leads made for dogs are not suitable for poultry. A dog leash is made with webbing, a nylon material that does not stretch. Dog leashes are not made with a bird's anatomy in mind. They are made for hardy four-legged mammals. Fowl only have two legs, fragile wings, and they have hollow bones. Using a dog leash with your feathered friend can cause your pet to trip, fall, break or injure limbs and wings, or even choke. Also, fowl can choke while using a dog lead and they often will shimmy out of their harnesses and escape. Fowl on the loose could spell disaster (or a ticket if your town has a leash law).

How is a Poultry Leash different?

A Poultry Leash is made out of elastic and cotton fabric. The material is much longer than the elastic, allowing it to bunch. When you use a DuckyPoultry Leash with your pet, the animal can walk freely, only feeling a slight tug when wandering too far off from you. This nudge alerts the bird gently rather than the abrupt halting yank a dog lead can cause. Even if a duck continues to pull forward, the leash will gently pull them back towards their owner, preventing choking.

Can I use the Poultry Leash with other animals?

A Poultry Leash can be used with other small animals like other birds, bunnies, ferrets, rats, etc, but should NOT being used with cats or dogs. Cats and dogs require a lead made out of a stronger material, like nylon webbing.

Poultry Leashes are 5ft long and can stretch to a maximum of 7-8ft. They are approximately 1in wide. They have a loop handle and a swivel hook to help prevent tangling.
